Softball Swept at Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom was handed a couple of losses by Holy Family, 5-4 and 10-3, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in Bensalem, PA.

Sophomore Kylie Quirk (Newark, DE) in game one got the Lightning within 2-1 in the top of the second inning with her first career home run.  With GBC trailing 3-1 in the fourth, a grounder from senior Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) was misplayed that allowed freshman Ali Henriquez (Hoboken, NJ) to score for a one-run deficit.

The Lightning trailed 5-2 entering the seventh, but got within one on a run-scoring groundout from senior Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ) and an RBI single from junior Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE).  However, the visitors could not get the tying run across.

Conway finished with two hits.  Middletown, DE freshman Taylor Beres (1-11) permitted three runs and five hits over three innings for the Lightning.

Casey Boltersdorf (3-8) struck out five over seven innings for the Tigers, yielding four runs – three earned – and six hits for the Tigers.  Kelsey Marigliano, Taylor Favinger, Tyler Beccari and Heather Bogardus recorded two hits apiece.

Sophomore Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) gave the Lightning a huge lift in game two with a two-run, first-inning long ball to make it 2-0.  It was her first homer of the season and second career.

Favinger then hit a solo blast in the last of the first and Bogardus ripped a three-run shot in the second for a 4-2 contest.

GBC trailed 5-2 in the fourth before freshman Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) had an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to two.  But Favinger all but ended things with a three-run homer in the bottom of the frame for an 8-3 game.

Millville, NJ junior Alexa Calareso (0-6) permitted four runs and four hits over two innings for the Lightning (2-25, 2-16 CACC).

Koreen Orozco (5-9) gave up three runs and four hits over seven innings with three strikeouts for the Tigers (7-24, 7-9).  Jen Trapp closed with three hits.
