Softball Splits Two With Nyack

Goldey-Beacom opened its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Nyack with a 5-2 victory before being handed a 7-1 loss at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Freshman Taylor Beres (Middletown, DE) helped her own cause in game one with a two-run single to open the scoring.  Nyack's Alissa Brugnoli got the first of her two RBI with a run-scoring a single in the third for a 2-1 contest.

The Lightning then got three runs in the last of the third for a 5-1 margin.  Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) reached on a fielder's choice to plate fellow senior Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ), junior Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) recorded an RBI single and sophomore Kylie Quick (Newark, DE) added her own run-scoring single.

Beres (1-5) pitched great in notching her first collegiate victory, getting a season-best nine strikeouts over seven innings and yielding just two runs – one earned – with four hits.  She also went 3-for-3 for a personal best in hits.

Conway and freshman Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) notched two hits apiece for GBC.

Brugnoli had two hits and notched her second RBI with a run-scoring double in the fifth.  Brittany Blair (2-8) yielded five runs – four earned – and seven hits over three innings with two strikeouts for the Warriors.

Nyack in game two opened a 3-0 lead in the third on Aferdita Sinanaj's two-run double to center.  Gabrielle Placencia lifted a sacrifice fly in the fifth, Erin O'Brien scored on an obstruction call later in the frame and the latter recorded a two-run inside-the-park homer in the seventh for a 7-0 margin.

GBC sophomore Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, NJ) lined an RBI single in the last of the seventh for the final.

Tower City, PA senior Kylie Doyle (0-5) struck out two over four innings, surrendering five runs – four earned – and seven hits over four innings for the Lightning (1-12, 1-7 CACC).

Nicole Wisser (3-5) was too much, striking out seven and allowing just a run and six hits over seven innings for the Warriors (5-15, 2-4).  O'Brien, Brugnoli and Sinanaj notched two hits apiece.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Tuesday to battle Georgian Court.  The doubleheader in Lakewood, NJ begins at 2:30 pm.
