Softball Falls Victim to Felician Comeback in Doubleheader Sweep



Goldey-Beacom in game one was handed a 10-2 loss before letting an early lead in the nightcap slip for a 9-8 setback in the finale at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference-foe Felician in Rutherford, NJ.

Felician in game one scored three times in the last of the second to open the scoring. Victoria Quercia had an RBI single, Isabella Bradian crossed home on an error and Jeannette Roldan added an RBI single.

The Lightning got two runs back in the top of the fourth for a 4-2 contest. Taylor Beres (Middletown, DE) lined an RBI single and fellow freshman Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) contributed a run-scoring single.

But the Golden Falcons plated four runs in the sixth for the final. Roldan blasted a two-run homer, Mia Montoya roped an RBI double and Steph Donah ended it with a run-scoring single.

Beres and sophomore Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) had two hits apiece for the Lightning. Beres (0-5) gave up nine runs – seven earned – and 11 hits over five innings with two strikeouts.

Roldan closed with three hits and three RBI as part of Felician's 13-hit attack. Ashley Owens struck out four over six innings, yielding two runs and seven hits.

Goldey-Beacom in the first inning of game two put up six runs, led by two-run singles each from junior Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) and sophomore Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, NJ). Felician plated six runs of its own in the last of the second for a 7-6 lead, paced by Montoya's grand slam.

The Golden Falcons entered the last of the seventh tied and walked off with the victory as C.J. Apacible drove home the winner on an infield single.

Davis notched three hits and three RBI for the Lightning (0-11, 0-6 CACC). Tower City, PA senior Kylie Doyle (0-4) struck out two over 6 1/3 innings.

Montoya closed with five RBI and both Apacible and Donah had three hits for Felician (7-12, 4-0). Owens got another win, yielding two runs – one earned – and four hits over six frames.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Nyack for a 1:00 pm CACC doubleheader.
