Baseball Drops Two at Wilmington (DE)

Goldey-Beacom finally got its play underway in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, but was handed a pair of losses by scores of 6-3 and 1-0 at Wilmington in New Castle, DE.

Wilmington in game one got two runs in the last of the fourth inning for a 4-1 lead.  Brooks Ryan lifted a sacrifice fly and Frank Nigro added an RBI double.

GBC got two runs back in the sixth for a 4-3 deficit.  Junior Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ) roped an RBI double to right-center field and freshman Andy Salzmann (Dunmore, PA) dropped a squeeze bunt that plated sophomore Justin Hill (Seaford, DE).

But Nigro got an RBI double in the sixth and Matt Frost scored on a wild pitch later in the frame for the final.

Freshman Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, DE) ended with two hits for the Lightning.  Abdul (1-3) allowed six runs – five earned – and six hits over 5 2/3 innings.

Nigro amassed three hits and Kyle Fries added two for the Wildcats.  Sean Deeley (1-1) struck out four, yielding an unearned run and one hit over five innings before Justin Mears struck out two in a scoreless ninth for his third save of the year.

The nightcap was dominated by Wilmington's Chuck Delagol (1-0), who struck out 11 over seven scoreless frames and yielded just two hits.  Max Carney closed with two hits for the Wildcats (8-10, 5-1 CACC), including a first-inning RBI single for the game's only marker.

Greentown, PA freshman Mitch Guerrieri (0-3) again pitched solidly for the Lightning (2-14-1, 0-2), permitting just one run and four hits over six innings with two strikeouts.
