Softball Falls Twice to Concordia (NY)

Goldey-Beacom put up a solid battle in both of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matches with Concordia (NY), but was handed a pair of losses by scores of 5-4 and 6-1 at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Goldey-Beacom in game one grabbed a 2-1 lead in the last of the first inning on an RBI single from senior Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) and sophomore Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) crossing home on an error.

Goshorn in the third inning rapped and RBI double and senior Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA) followed with her own run-scoring double for a 4-1 lead.

But the Clippers in the fourth inning strung together four runs on five hits for a 5-4 lead.  Tori Tansley lined a two-run single up the middle with Allison Beltz and Tansley each scoring on separate wild pitches.

Goshorn recorded three hits to match her personal best from last year's season opener at Virginia State.  Doyle (0-3) struck out three over seven innings, allowing five runs and 11 hits.

Belts, Carly Acuna and Audrey Gardus had two hits apiece for the Clippers.  Shayla Peterson (3-0) notched three strikeouts over seven innings, permitting four runs – two earned – and 10 hits.

Beltz in the first inning of game two gave Concordia a 2-0 lead with a two-run single.  Sarah Ross in the third inning helped her own cause by launching a solo home run for her second long ball of the year and a 3-0 margin.

Brandle recorded an RBI single in the last of the third to make it a 3-1 contest.  But Peterson, MacKenna Powell and Beltz each recorded an RBI single in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, respectively, for the final.

Brandle notched two hits and senior Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ) recorded a hit in each contest, running her hitting streak to four games.  Middletown, DE freshman Taylor Beres (0-3) struck out four over five innings, surrendering four runs and six hits.

Ross (1-3) went 3-for-3 at the plate and got the winning, allowing one run and seven hits over seven innings with two strikeouts.
