Women’s Basketball Dealt 76-69 Loss at Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom made a furious third-quarter comeback, only to be handed a tough 76-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Holy Family in Philadelphia, PA.

Holy Family looked in control by scoring 13 consecutive points late in the first quarter for a 22-10 lead.  Elizabeth Radley netted seven points in that span for the Tigers, who shot 50 percent (8-of-16) from the floor in the opening period for a 22-13 lead.

The Tigers owned a 41-26 halftime cushion by shooting 52 percent (15-of-29) from the field with six 3-pointers.  Radley ended the half with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting and four 3-pointers.

Goldey-Beacom began its comeback by outscoring Holy Family 29-15 in the third quarter to move within 56-55.  Sophomore Jill Latanowich (Newton, MA) netted seven points in the quarter for the Lightning, who shot 70 percent (14-of-20) from the field and owned an 11-3 rebounding edge to overcome an 18-point deficit.

The Lightning closed to a 69-66 deficit with 1:06 left when junior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) canned a baseline jumper.  But Casey Schweitzer had an emphatic response on the other end for the Tigers, converting an old-fashioned three-point play with 34 seconds remaining for a six-point contest.

Senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) made 1-of-2 from the foul line with 27 seconds to go, bringing the Lightning within 72-67.  But Alexis Hofstaedter all but ended things by going 4-for-4 from the line over the final 24 seconds for a 76-67 margin.

Sophomore Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) did all she could with a season-best 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting and a career-high eight assists to go with seven rebounds.  Bryson ended with 16 points and 12 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season and 44th career for GBC (7-16, 5-9 CACC), which shot 48 percent (30-of-63) from the field.

It is Bryson's seventh double-double in her last eight contests.

Radley closed with 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting, Hofstaedter recorded 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds with Casey Thomas adding 15 points for the Tigers (8-14, 7-7), who shot 52 percent (27-of-52) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Dominican (NY) as part of the College's second annual "Hoop It Up."  Game time is 4:00 pm, followed by the men's 6:00 pm contest.
