Men’s Basketball Wins Season-Best Fifth Straight, 95-77 Over Nyack

GBC Clinches Berth in CACC Tournament

Goldey-Beacom set the tone in the first five minutes and was on its way to a fifth straight victory in its 95-77 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph over Nyack at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning blitzed the Warriors to the tune of a 17-2 run that included the final 12 points just 4:50 into the contest.  Freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) had his way by opening the scoring on a 3-pointer and then netting the final seven points of the burst.

GBC made all five of its field-goal attempts in that span with three 3-pointers and went 4-for-4 from the line in addition to creating three turnovers.  Nyack only was 1-of-5 from the floor in that time.

The Lightning owned a 54-39 halftime lead by shooting 62 percent (18-of-29) from the floor and 8-of-13 from 3-point range.  Livingston was the story with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting and junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) added 11.

Livingston led six players in double figures with 24 points – just six shy of her personal best – on 8-of-14 shooting with three 3-pointers.  Senior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) also went on a tear with 16 points on 7-of-19 shooting with 12 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the campaign and third in the last five games.

Taite scored 14 points, junior Troy Stancil (Washington, DC) netted 13, sophomore Justin Salem (Mahwah, NJ) poured in 12 and junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) added 11 for the Lightning, who shot 51 percent (33-of-65) from the floor and canned a season-best 13 three-pointers.  The scoring outburst comes one year after the Lightning's 115-74 win at the Warriors, tying the school record for most points in a game during the modern era (1998-present).

Taite now is tied for sixth in school history with 344 career field goals.

GBC forced 22 turnovers, marking the 16th time this season it created at least 19.

Elijah Farley scored 15 points, Rashard Lewis added 14, Carl Balthazar netted 13 and Imran Ritchie contributed 10 for the Warriors (5-16, 5-9 CACC), who shot 46 percent (25-of-64) from the field.

This marks the seventh time in school history the Lightning (14-8, 10-3) reached double figures in league victories. In clinching a berth in the CACC Tournament, they remain one-half game behind Jefferson (11-3) for first place in the South Division.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Wednesday to visit Holy Family.  Game time in Philadelphia is 8:00 pm, following the women's 6:00 pm contest.
