Men’s Basketball Moves Into First Place With 93-61 Rout of Concordia

Goldey-Beacom had control the whole way and moved into first place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division with its seventh straight win, 93-61 over Concordia (NY) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

GBC dominated the opening half with a 55-39 halftime lead by shooting 56 percent (19-of-34) from the floor and 10-of-17 from three-point range.  Junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) again was on fire with 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting and senior Isiah Graves (Atlantic City, NJ) added 10.

The Lightning then opened the second half on a 19-6 run in the first eight minutes for a 74-45 lead to continue the rout.  Junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) scored five points in that time to help GBC shoot 8-of-12 from the field and limit Concordia to only 3-of-15.

Taite ended with 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting to pace six players in double figures.  Johnson netted 17, Graves closed with 13, senior Chandler Levingston Simon (Vernon Hills, IL) and junior Troy Stancil (Washington, DC) poured in 11 apiece with senior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) netting 10 for the Lightning, who shot 47 percent (33-of-70) from the field with a season-best 14 three-pointers.

Taite's climb up the scoring chart now has him sixth with 1,131 career points and fifth in the single-season book with 476 points.

Baron Goodridge netted 14 points with Cedrick McFadden and Alex White Jr. adding 10 apiece for the Clippers (8-15, 2-12 CACC), who shot 36 percent (22-of-61) from the floor and 6-of-24 from three-point range.

Goldey-Beacom (16-8, 12-3) now sits one-half game ahead of Jefferson (12-4) in the division with the top two teams getting a home game in the conference quarterfinals.  Wilmington (9-6) is third, one-half game in front of University of the Sciences (9-7).

The night also was highlighted by Goldey-Beacom's second annual "Hoop it Up," which welcomed back many alumni for a great night of food, friendship and camaraderie.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Tuesday to battle University of the Sciences.  Game time in Philadelphia is 8:00 pm, which follows the women's 6:00 pm contest.
