Volleyball Almost Makes Remarkable Comeback in 3-1 Loss to Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom almost pulled off a stunning comeback on Senior Day in its final match of the season, but was dealt a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference setback (21-25, 17-25, 25-22, 24-26) by Georgian Court at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning actually posted more kills than the Lions over the first two sets with a 25-24 margin, but the visitors only had seven errors in that stretch.  The second set was key as Georgian Court recorded 11 kills with just one error for a .455 hitting percentage.

The third set saw Goldey-Beacom eradicate an 18-15 deficit by using a 10-4 run to close the match to 2-1.  Sophomore Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ) and freshman Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, NJ) each had two kills in that run with the latter getting a kill to close the set.

Przywara had five kills in the set with Syrdahl and freshman Chelsey James (Cherry Hill, NJ) getting three apiece for the Lightning, who had a 15-10 kills edge and hit .333.  The defense also came through by forcing the Lions into eight errors and a .053 percentage.

The fourth set provided another comeback for the Lightning, who went on a 7-1 run to open a 24-22 lead and gain two set points.  James and freshman Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) each had a kills in that spurt.

But the Lions won the next four points to take the match, keyed by Amy Bruno's kill and three errors from the Lightning.

Senior Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) dished 22 assists in her final match, freshman Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) had 14, Przywara amassed 21 kills and 12 digs, Syrdahl recorded 10 kills and Boyce notched 10 digs for GBC (7-22, 5-14 CACC).

Florence concluded one of the greatest careers in Goldey-Beacom volleyball history, ending first in team history with 2,473 assists and sixth with 134 aces.  She and fellow senior Megann Santiago (Levittown, NY) were honored before the match for their tireless work and commitment to the program.

Peggy Rosario had 11 kills, Aubrey Binkley notched 10 and 10 digs, Ashley Pierson amassed 22 assists and 10 digs, Jaime Sweeney dished 15 assists and Emily McCurley added 17 digs for the Lions (21-9, 16-3).
