Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Dealt 61-56 Loss by Bridgeport

Goldey-Beacom forced Bridgeport into 25 turnovers, but endured a tough shooting night in a 61-56 loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

A slow-moving contest to start picked up with junior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) hitting a 3-pointer with 1:43 left, bringing GBC to a 53-50 deficit.  McGrogan then forced a turnover and the Lightning looked for the tie, but freshman Sarah Round (Northampton, England) could not hit her three-point attempt.

Bridgeport then called timeout once it got the ball to half court and came through with a big basket.  Sarah Middleton took a great pass from Samnell Vonleh and drove to the goal to make it 55-50 with 56 seconds left.

GBC again went for a 3-pointer, but McGrogan could not hit and the home side was forced to foul.  Andrea Terranova hit once from the stripe to give the Purple Knights a 56-50 cushion with 47 seconds to go.

Freshman Reetta Saaski (Espoo, Finland) misfired on a three-point attempt for the Lightning (4-3) and NK Ilang made a pair from the line with 35 seconds remaining for a 58-50 game to all but end things.

Sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) matched her career high with 17 points along with getting eight rebounds, McGrogan had 12 and eight with senior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) netting 10 points for the Lightning, who have forced 54 turnovers over the last two games.

Ilang had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Vonleh recorded 13 and 10 with Middleton netting 11 points for the Purple Knights (2-3), who shot 44 percent (24-of-55) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom this Saturday plays its fourth game in seven days, traveling to Sparkill, NY for a 1:00 pm contest at Saint Thomas Aquinas.
