Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Stays Hot With 65-54 Win Over Lincoln (PA)

In a game highlighted by defense, Goldey-Beacom scored 22 first-quarter points and the teams played almost even the rest of the way in the home side's 65-54 victory over Lincoln at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning blitzed to a 22-10 lead at quarter time, showing a strong offense that has helped them average almost 17 points in the opening quarter this season.  GBC forced Lincoln into 12 turnovers and eight fouls in the period with the visitors only attempting 10 shots.

Junior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) and freshman Sarah Round (Northampton, England) scored eight points apiece in the quarter for the Lightning, who ended the stanza on a 20-5 run.

Goldey-Beacom (4-2) held Lincoln to only 38 percent shooting (21-of-56) for the contest, just off the team's season-best defense of 34 percent last Tuesday at Millersville.  The Lions were forced into 29 turnovers, the fourth time the Lightning's opponents have committed at least 20, and only shot 3-of-17 from three-point range.

There was some offense played in the game as McGrogan, named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll, closed with 22 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season to go with shooting 12-for-14 from the line.

Round again was a major factor with 13 points, giving her double figures in five of the team's six contests.  Senior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) hauled in 11 rebounds and freshman Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) added eight.

Alisia Machado had 10 points and nine rebounds with Bryanna Brown adding 10 points and four steals for the Lions (2-4).

Goldey-Beacom is home Thursday for a rescheduled contest against Bridgeport.  Please note the game is a 5:00 pm start.
