Men’s Basketball Battles Throughout in 90-76 Loss to No. 6 Saint Anselm

Goldey-Beacom had its hands full against sixth-ranked Saint Anselm, but more than held its own during a hard-fought 90-76 loss in Waltham, MA.

Saint Anselm (2-0) took control in the opening half with a 48-26 lead, shooting 53 percent (16-of-30) from the floor to go with six 3-pointers and a 22-12 rebounding edge.  Senior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) led all scorers in the first half with 10 points for the Lightning, followed by Cody Ball and Spencer Cline for the Hawks with nine apiece.

Goldey-Beacom came out firing in the second half with a 21-12 run over the first 7 1/2 minutes, cutting its deficit to 60-47.  Taite scored nine points in that spurt with freshman Giovanni Jones (Norfolk, VA) adding five.

The Lightning (0-2) got it within 70-60 with 7:38 to play when sophomore Kyle Elliot (Rahway, NJ) canned a 3-pointer.  But the Hawks then went on a 12-5 run in just over three minutes for an 82-65 lead, keyed by five points from Danny Evans.

Taite poured in 31 points, nine off his career high, on 11-of-18 shooting with five 3-pointers, five rebounds and five assists for the Lightning.  Sophomore Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) added 17 points.

Evans had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Chris Paul scored 16 points with Tim Guers adding 13 and 11 rebounds for the Hawks.
