Women’s Tennis Dealt Tough 4-3 Loss at Concordia (NY)

Goldey-Beacom went up to Concordia for a battle among two of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's top teams, but left Bronxville, NY with a tough 4-3 loss.

Goldey-Beacom for the first time all season started the match by dropping the doubles point. It did get a win during third doubles with junior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) and freshman Kristin Radeke (Bremen, Germany) recording a 6-0 victory over Hillary Sherpa and Katrina Sta Cruz.

Concordia won at number one, two and three singles to clinch the victory with a 4-0 lead, but Goldey-Beacom did salvage the final three points. Maria Bruno (Maracay, Venezuela) got a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) win over Franziska Putschbach at fourth singles, fellow freshman Elin Anderson (Conwy, Wales) recorded a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at fifth singles over Sherpa and freshman Andrea Fresneda (Valencia, Spain) posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory at sixth singles over Sta Cruz.

The loss snaps the Lightning's 23-match winning streak in CACC regular-season contests.

Goldey-Beacom (7-1, 6-1 CACC) now is tied in the loss column with Concordia (7-1) and Wilmington (5-1) for first place in the league. Only the top two teams receive a bye into the conference semifinals.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Sunday to visit University of the Sciences. Please note the 2:00 pm match will take place at the University of Pennsylvania.
