Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Keeps Rolling With 80-65 Victory Over Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom saw four players score in double figures and won for the fourth time in five games with an 80-65 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Holy Family at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

GBC held a precarious 61-60 lead before it scored seven straight in roughly 2 1/2 minutes to grab an eight-point cushion with 5:14 remaining.  Senior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) netted five points in that span and junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) ended it on a layup.

After Jalen Thompson converted an old-fashioned three-point play for the Tigers to make it 68-63, Lightning freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) canned a 3-pointer with 4:41 left to restore the eight-point margin.

Terrell Jones hit two free throws with 2:24 to play, bringing Holy Family within 71-65.  But GBC scored the final nine points with Thompson hitting four free throws and junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) canning a 3-pointer.

Taite, named Monday to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll a fourth time this season, scored 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting with seven rebounds over 38 minutes.  He climbed into 11th place in school history with 936 points and 10th with 294 field goals.

Thompson had 19 points and a career-best 16 rebounds, Livingston scored 12 points and Johnson added 11 for the Lightning (8-7, 4-2 CACC), who shot 49 percent (32-of-66) from the field and forced 15 turnovers.

Maliq Sanders netted 20 points, Jones and Jalen Thompson poured in 13 apiece with Mekhi Bryant adding 12 for the Tigers (2-11, 1-5), who shot 37 percent (21-of-57) from the floor with 10 three-pointers.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Wednesday at Felician for an 8:00 pm contest.  The women's game between the same schools precedes it at 5:30 pm in Rutherford, NJ.
