Men’s Basketball Rolls to 80-67 Win at Felician

Goldey-Beacom once again used the combination of solid shooting and strong defense to notch its third-straight win, 80-67 at Felician in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in Rutherford, NJ.

Goldey-Beacom in the first six minutes raced to a 16-4 lead by shooting 7-of-9 from the field and forcing four turnovers.  Junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ), named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll for a fifth time this season, netted seven points in that span for the Lightning.

Junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) scored eight points in the half with Taite and senior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) adding seven each for Goldey-Beacom, which held a 44-26 lead.  The Lightning shot 52 percent (14-of-27) from the floor with four 3-pointers, gained a 29-13 rebounding edge and forced the Golden Falcons into eight turnovers.

Felician closed to 44-33 in the first 90 seconds of the second half, but GBC responded with an 11-2 run in just over two minutes for a 55-35 lead.  Taite netted five points in that run with senior Isiah Graves (Atlantic City, NJ) and junior Troy Stancil (Washington, DC) each hitting a 3-pointer.

Taite ended with 25 points for the second straight game on 9-of-14 shooting to give him 961 career points.  He also kicked in four 3-pointers and four steals to help the Lightning shoot 52 percent (27-of-52) from the floor with 10 three-pointers and a 42-35 rebounding advantage.

Johnson poured in 11 points off the bench, Stancil netted 10 with freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) adding nine and 10 rebounds for GBC (9-7, 5-2 CACC).

Terrell Spaulding scored 25 points, Zamir Wright netted 11 with Rahsaan Williams adding 10 and 13 rebounds for the Golden Falcons (6-8, 3-3), who shot only 31 percent (20-of-64) from the field and committed 19 turnovers.

It marks the 14th time this season GBC has forced its opponent into at least 19 turnovers.
