Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls, 95-88, to Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom looked to end the winning streak of regionally ranked Bloomfield, but could not hold an early lead in a 95-88 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

GBC raced to a 30-11 lead in the first nine minutes by shooting 10-of-16 from the floor with five 3-pointers and forcing five turnovers.  Junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) scored nine points in that spurt.

Bloomfield fought back over the final eight minutes of the half, using a 24-13 run to close to a 46-40 deficit.  Kavoine Green poured in nine points with Nick Davidson adding eight for the Bears, who shot 8-of-15 from the floor in that time.

The Lightning's cushion was 69-60 with 10:21 to play, but the Bears went on a 17-5 spurt to gain a 77-74 lead with 6:55 left.  Davidson and Keith Washington scored four points apiece.

Bloomfield held an 83-82 lead before Safee Abdus-Sabur hit his first of two free throws.  He missed the second and Green tipped it in with 3:04 to remaining for a four-point contest that all but ended things.

Taite ended with a team-high 20 points and now is 10th in school history with 981 career.  He also had nine assists to move into sixth at 224 and added eight rebounds.

Senior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) had 19 points and nine rebounds, junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) netted 17 points, freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) scored 13 and senior Isiah Graves (Atlantic City, NJ) added 12 for GBC (9-8, 5-3 CACC), which shot 41 percent (31-of-75) from the floor and had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Green poured in 30 points, Davidson scored 24, Washington had 19 and Abdus-Sabur kicked in 10 for the Bears (13-3, 8-0), who won their sixth straight by shooting 45 percent (30-of-67) from the floor.

Bloomfield entered ranked sixth in the East Region according to D2SIDA.

The Lightning forced 20 turnovers, marking the 15th time this season their opposition has had at least 19.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday is home against Georgian Court at 8:00 pm.  That follows the women's game between the same schools at 6:00 pm.
