Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Taite Reaches 1,000 Career Points in Men’s Basketball’s Win Over Georgian Court

The expected milestone for junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) came to fruition, reaching 1,000 career points as he helped Goldey-Beacom to a 75-65 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Georgian Court at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Taite got in his 72nd career game, hitting a free throw with 1:18 remaining to become the 10th player in the program's history and ninth in the modern era (starting in 1998) to reach this.  The reigning CACC Player of the Week ended with 24 points to give him at least 20 points in four straight games and eight times this season.

Also what should not be lost is that Taite played all 40 minutes for the third time this season, shot 7-of-12 from the floor and 8-for-9 from the foul line to go with five assists and two steals.

Junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) poured in 16 points, senior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) had 12 and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) hauled in 12 rebounds for the Lightning, who shot 52 percent (12-of-23) from the floor in the second half and 41 percent (24-of-59) overall.

GBC also won this game at the line by going 18-for-27 in the second half and 22-for-32 overall.  Georgian Court only was 15-for-18 for the game.

The win vaulted Goldey-Beacom (10-8, 6-3 CACC) into a first-place tie with University of the Sciences and Jefferson in the CACC South Division.  The top two teams in each of the league's two divisions host a conference quarterfinal.

Caleb Bowser scored 21 points, Nikola Vujovic netted 17, Juwuan Carter scored 12 and Sean Barksdale added 11 and 10 rebounds for the Lions (3-14, 3-6), who shot 33 percent (23-of-69) from the floor and 4-of-18 from three-point range.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Sunday at Caldwell.  The men's game is first at 1:00 pm, followed by the women's contest at 3:00 pm.
