Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Handed 60-42 Loss by USciences

Goldey-Beacom put forth one of its best games all season, but ran into a solid University of the Sciences outfit and was dealt a 60-42 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Devils looked in command by scoring 10 straight points to gain a 41-24 lead with 6:11 to go in the third quarter.  Sarah Abbonizio scored five points in that time and capped it with a 3-pointer, helping her unit shoot 4-of-4 from the field in that time.

Goldey-Beacom refused to pack its bags, scoring eight straight points in just over a minute to close to 46-37 with 9:45 to play.  Sophomores Ruth Fernandez (Madrid, Spain) and Jill Latanowich (Newton, MA) each canned a 3-pointer in that stretch and sophomore Mara Poch (Girona, Spain) ended it with a layup.

But that came right before USciences scored the next 10 points for a 56-37 margin with 5:15 to go.  Alex Thomas (Hockessin, DE) returned home to net six points in that time.

Senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA), named this week to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, had eight points and 10 rebounds with junior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) and senior Margherita Giubilei (Cesena, Italy) adding seven points apiece for GBC (4-10, 2-3 CACC), which only shot 31 percent (16-of-51) from the field.

Laura Trisch had her way with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting with 13 rebounds for the Devils (12-2, 4-1), who shot 48 percent (22-of-46) from the field with six 3-pointers.  Abbonizio scored 15 points to give her 992 career and Thomas added 14.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday to face Holy Family at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's game between the same schools at 3:00 pm.
