Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Plays Solidly in 76-52 Win Over USciences

Goldey-Beacom used a pair of double-digit scoring bursts and solid defense to open 2018 with a 76-52 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over University of the Sciences at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning began to take control by scoring 10 straight points late in the first half for a 35-23 lead with 2:03 remaining.  Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) and fellow senior Isiah Graves (Atlantic City, NJ) scored four points apiece for GBC, which shot 4-of-8 from the field in that time.

Goldey-Beacom's solid defense forced 12 turnovers in the opening half that helped the squad open a 40-25 halftime lead.  Junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ), named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll for a fourth time this year, once again did his thing by scoring 14 points in the stanza.

GBC then poured in 11 straight points late in the contest to gain a 72-47 cushion with 2:48 to go.  Sophomore Justin Salem (Mahway, NJ) and junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) each netted four points in that time.

Taite ended with 16 points and also canned a pair of 3-pointers, moving into eighth place in school history with 106 career.  Freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) netted 12 points and Thompson added 10 for the Lightning (7-7, 3-2 CACC), who shot 46 percent (30-of-66) from the field with seven 3-pointers and only committed four turnovers.

GBC forced 23 turnovers, marking the sixth time this season it has accomplished this.  It entered tonight third in the country with 22.08 forced turnovers per game.

Will Gregorits continued to be a thorn for the Lightning with 14 points and 11 rebounds with JJ Melchoir adding 12 points for the Devils (8-5, 4-1), who shot 43 percent (18-of-42) from the floor and fell for just the second time in their last seven contests.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Holy Family at 3:00 pm.  That precedes the women's game between the same schools at 1:00 pm.
