Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Handed Crushing Overtime Loss at Post

Goldey-Beacom could not convert on several opportunities and was dealt a tough 70-68 overtime loss at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference-foe Post in Waterbury, CT.

Lauren Chambers made a layup with 1:48 to go in overtime for a 69-66 Post lead before freshman Alanna Speaks (Wilmington, DE) followed suit on the other end for GBC, making it a one-point game.  Chambers then missed a layup to give the Lightning a chance for the lead, but sophomore Nina Bartlette (Winthrop, MA) could not convert on a jump shot.

Jasmyne Fogle made 1-of-2 from the line with 20 seconds left to give the Eagles a 70-68 lead.  Again the Lightning had a chance, but Bartlette missed a layup and the resulting held ball retained possession with the visitors.  GBC inbounded with 5.2 seconds left, but could not get off a shot before the buzzer.

The Lightning forced overtime when Bartlette rebounded her own miss and hit a layup with 11 seconds left for a 64-64 tie.  Fogle missed a layup for the Eagles on the other end before Speaks had her layup blocked by Gabriela Middleton as regulation expired.

Bartlette scored a career-best 18 points to go with nine rebounds for the Lightning (6-14, 4-7 CACC), who only shot 33 percent (25-of-77) from the field.  Speaks had 14 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season with senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) getting 13 and 11 for her seventh double-double of the season and 41st career.

Toni Deren poured in 15 points off the bench with Middleton, Ann Marie Nelson and Taylor Ceballos adding 10 apiece for the Eagles (3-14, 2-9), who won despite committing 23 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom, which led by as many as 12 in the first half, owned a 33-31 halftime lead by shooting 41 percent (14-of-34) from the floor and forcing 13 turnovers.  Bryson closed the half with nine points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Chestnut Hill as part of a doubleheader with the men's squad.  The women's game is at 6:00 pm, preceding the men's 8:00 pm contest.  A free t-shirt giveaway will take place during the doubleheader, sponsored by Tierra Mexi-Cali Grill.
