Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Explodes Late in 86-71 Win at Post

Goldey-Beacom scored 20 straight points late in the contest and left Waterbury, CT with a big 86-71 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Post.

GBC took a slow-paced game riddled with whistles and made everyone at the Drubner Center wonder what had just happened.  The Lightning's incredible burst with little interruption turned a 69-66 deficit with 6:52 left into an 86-69 cushion with 1:42 remaining.

Freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) was the spark plug in the burst with eight points, beginning it with two free throws and ending it on a layup.  Juniors Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) and Troy Stancil (Washington, DC) had consecutive 3-pointers in that run with senior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) adding a steal and a thunderous dunk.

For that stretch, GBC shot 8-of-9 from the floor and forced four turnovers.  The Lightning only allowed one innocuous field goal from the Eagles over the final 7:48 for their fourth straight victory in the series.

Junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) ended with 22 points and a career-high-tying 10 rebounds in going 9-for-10 from the foul line for his first double-double of the season.  Thompson added 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting with 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the campaign.

Livingston and Johnson netted 15 points each for the Lightning, who shot 57 percent (21-of-37) from the field in the second half and went 10-for-12 from the line.

Tyler Desrosiers poured in 24 points, Darrick Boyd netted 18 with Joseph Lockwood adding 10 and 13 rebounds for the Eagles (6-14, 5-6 CACC), who shot 42 percent (24-of-57) from the floor and committed 18 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom (12-8, 8-3) remains in second place in the CACC South Division, one-half game behind Jefferson (9-3).

Taite scored 15 points in the opening half, going for 8-for-8 from the line, as the Lightning trailed 36-30 at the break.

Goldey-Beacom has a quick turnaround before Tuesday's home game with Chestnut Hill.  The men's game is at 8:00 pm, which follows the women's 6:00 pm contest.  A free t-shirt giveaway will take place during the doubleheader, sponsored by Tierra Mexi-Cali Grill.
