History
With neither team surpassing a double digit lead, Goldey-Beacom topped Georgian Court in a closely fought 66-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
At the 6:11 mark in the third quarter, the Lightning bolted toward an 11-2 spurt enhancing the lead to 45-40 during a 4:07 span. Four players contributed in the run including freshman Alanna Speaks , sophomore Amanda McGrogan , junior Tanner Turner-Rush and senior Britani Bryson .Â
The Lightning maintained the lead for the rest of the game after Speaks (Wilmington, DE) nailed a 3-pointer to put them up 57-54 with 3:29 remaining in regulation. McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) ensured the victory going 4-4 from the free throw line in the final 1:07.
Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) netted a game-high 19 points for Goldey-Beacom, matching her career high from January 4, 2017 against Caldwell.
Bryson (Hampton, VA) scored 13 points and amassed 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and third straight. The reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week also wrapped up four blocks and three steals.
Speaks recorded 16 points on 5-for-12 shooting from 3-point territory and hauled in 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
McGrogan added 11 points and seven assists for the Lightning (6-12, 4-5 CACC), who have won 25 straight games from the Lions and 17 in a row at the Jones Center.
The Lions (3-13, 1-8) got strong performances from Jaelyn Tweedy cementing 18 points and Carna Prokic posting 13 points with seven rebounds and six assists. Destiny Thompson additionally affixed 11 points and nine rebounds.
Goldey-Beacom returns to the court on Sunday at Caldwell. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00Â pm with the men's team preceding them at 1:00 pm.
