In the final games of its inaugural season, Goldey-Beacom baseball swept Philadelphia University by scores of 4-3 and 14-3 on a sunny day at Doyle Field.
During the fourth inning of game one, Raul Perez-Duran (1-for-2), the junior from Trenton, N.J., hit a double down the left field side tallying three runs and putting the Lightning up 3-2.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh inning, Tevin Thomas (2-for-4) gave the Lightning a walk-off victory with a single scoring Justin Hill (freshman from Seaford, Del.).
Blake Salesky, the junior from Aurora, Ill., started on the mound for the Lightning. He pitched five innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs.Â
Isaiah Holmes (2-0), the freshman from Coatesville, Pa., received the win for Goldey-Beacom. He pitched two innings, allowing no hits and no earned runs.
Brandon Smith (0-1) took the loss for the Rams.
In the final game of the season, Philadelphia University (18-27) started strong and scored three runs in the first two innings.
The momentum swung, in the third inning, when CJ Wood (senior from Newark, Del.) hit a two-run homer down the left field line decreasing the Rams lead 3-2.Â
Zach Roseman, the freshman from Wilmington, Del., later in the inning rapped an RBI single for a 3-3 tie.
During the fifth inning, the Lightning struck down upon the Rams and tallied 10 runs to eventually put the game out of reach. The Lightning smacked five RBI singles thanks to Hill (1-for-4), Edwin Lee (2-for-4), Geoff Stone (3-for-4), Thomas (1-for-3) and Roseman (3-for-5).Â
John Barkley Jr. (1-5), the freshman from Smyrna, Del., got the win on the mound for Goldey-Beacom.Â
Jack Galligan (0-2) gained the loss on the mound for Philadelphia University.
Goldey-Beacom (10-35) finished the season strong winning seven of its last 11 games.Â
