Goldey-Beacom received a battle from the District of Columbia and prevailed in the final rubber for a 5-4 victory at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

Despite the Lightning receiving three forfeit points, they found themselves in a 4-4 tie with one rubber left.  Senior Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) had the only victory in that stretch for GBC, 6-4, 6-0 at fourth singles over Estefani Castrillon.

Sengl now is 13-0 this season in singles with eight of those victories coming at number four.  The wins puts her in a tie for 10th place among single-season leaders in team history.

So it all came down to the match at third singles between GBC freshman Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) and Paula Avellan.  Garcia Valle gutted out a tiebreak win in the first set and then broke serve late in the second for a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 triumph.

Goldey-Beacom, which is ranked third in the East Region by both the NCAA and the ITA, is home Sunday against Stonehill at 11:00 am.
