Softball Gains Split With Georgian Court



Goldey-Beacom in game one of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Georgian Court notched a 6-2 win before it was handed a 9-6 loss in Wilmington, DE.
 
Down 2-0 in the third inning of game one, GBC rallied for three runs to open a 3-2 lead.  Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) had an RBI triple, fellow sophomore Rachel Davis (Laurel, DE) added a run-scoring single and then scored on an error.
 
Davis added an RBI single in the fifth and senior Charlee King (New Castle, DE) notched a two-run single for the final.
 
King, Davis and senior Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) had two hits apiece for the Lightning.  East Windsor, NJ sophomore Alyssa Giampolo (6-7) struck out three, but yielded two runs and six hits over seven innings.
 
Jessica O'Neil was tagged for six runs – five earned – and 10 hits over five innings for the Lions.  Bryana Smith and Molly Jackson each amassed two hits.
 
Georgian Court in game two scored six times to gain a 6-2 lead, keyed by a two-run single each from Smith and Samantha Reilly.  Goldey-Beacom rallied in the fourth for a 6-6 tie with Giampolo, Mao, Davis and junior Autumn Hollis (Elkton, MD) each driving home a run.
 
But the Lions came through in the sixth with three runs for a 9-6 cushion.  Samantha Salomon lined a two-run double and Reilly added an RBI single.
 
King rapped two hits with Hollis getting two hits and three RBI.  Tower City, PA junior Kylie Doyle (5-14) permitted nine runs and nine hits over six innings with three strikeouts.
 
O'Neil (7-12) rebounded in game two for the win, striking out two over three scoreless relief frames.  Reilly had three RBI with her, Marissa Trezza and Kelly Hardiman getting two hits apiece for the Lions (13-27, 10-12 CACC).

 
Goldey-Beacom (13-29, 11-11) sits in a fifth-place tie in the league with four games left.  The top eight teams make the conference tournament.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday hits the road for a league doubleheader at Bloomfield, which begins at 1:00 pm.
