Goldey-Beacom's women's tennis team tonight learned its sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament will begin Monday as the third seed in the East Region with a match vs. sixth-seeded Southern New Hampshire.

The match will take place Monday at noon on the campus of Queens (NY) College, which is seeded second in the region.  The winner of that match faces Queens in the second round on Tuesday at noon, also in Flushing, NY, and that winner heads to the "Sweet 16" in Altamonte Springs, FL.

GBC (13-3, 7-0 CACC) clinched the berth October 23 by defeating Post, 5-1, for its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title.  The Lightning went 9-0 in the fall, 7-0 in the league for the first time and was the top seed in the CACC Tournament.  All were firsts in team history.

The Lightning are no strangers to the national stage.  The 2014-15 squad went a school-record 18-5 and upended league-rival Chestnut Hill for the first head-to-head NCAA Tournament victory for any sport in school history.  It was then sophomore and current senior Francesca Beg (Westbury, England) who ended the 5-3 triumph with her gutty victory at sixth singles.

This year's squad has featured great all-around play from senior Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany), who is an amazing 16-0 in singles that includes 11-0 at number four.  A second-team all-conference pick, she went 4-0 in the CACC Tournament and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Sengl and Beg also have been a power at first doubles, ranked 10th in the East Region with a 12-4 mark.  The duo won their first 11 matches of the season.

Excelling at singles is freshman Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain), who was picked first team all-league and is ranked 17th in singles for the East Region.  She is 9-4 on the campaign with victories in her first five matches.

The remaining all-league honorees included Beg, Alma Garcia Valle (Valldolid, Spain) and fellow freshman Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) picked second team All-CACC.  Garcia Valle and Hortelano Pey both are 12-3 in singles this year and 11-2 as a unit in doubles.

Southern New Hampshire (15-7, 10-2 NE10) earned an at-large bid out of the Northeast-10 Conference.
