Softball Records Huge Doubleheader Sweep at Nyack

Goldey-Beacom got itself right back into the thick of the race for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with a doubleheader sweep, 7-1 and 7-0, of Nyack in Nyack, NY.

The Lightning in game one opened a 3-0 in the second inning with junior Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA) lining a two-run double and sophomore Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) following with an RBI single.  A sacrifice fly in the third from Charlee King (New Castle, DE), followed by a two-run single from fellow senior Ryann Farley (Barnegat, NJ) made it 6-0.

It was more than enough for Doyle, who permitted just an unearned run and seven hits over seven innings.  Freshman Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) had two hits, including an RBI single in the sixth, and Farley also closed with two hits.

Brittany Blair gave up six runs – three earned – and five hits over three innings for the Warriors and Katalina Padilla closed with two hits.

GBC in game two marched to a 3-0 lead in the second, courtesy of an RBI single from junior Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) and a two-run homer from sophomore Alyssa Giampolo (East Windsor, NJ).  Senior Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) laced an RBI double in the third for a 4-0 cushion.

The Lightning padded their lead in the fifth when junior Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ) lifted a sacrifice fly and Mao delivered an RBI single for a 6-0 cushion.  Brandle closed the scoring in the sixth with a leadoff home run.

Giampolo (5-7) struck out two over seven innings, permitting just two hits.  Mao totaled three hits with Murphy and Brandle getting two apiece.

Nicole Wisser gave up seven runs – five earned – and 10 hits over seven innings with four strikeouts for Nyack (6-32, 4-16 CACC).
