Softball Dealt Tough Doubleheader Sweep by Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom opened its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Holy Family with a 3-0 loss before it fell victim to a seventh-inning rally in an 8-3 setback at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

The Tigers in game two received back-to-back RBI triples from Kelsey Marigliano and Taylor Favinger in the third inning before Koreen Orozco in the sixth lined a run-scoring double to left center.

Bailey Walters, who tossed a no-hitter two seasons ago in her last appearance at the Jackson Complex, had to settle for a three-hit shutout today with three strikeouts and three walks.  Favinger ended with two hits.

Tower City, PA junior Kylie Doyle (4-12) again pitched solidly for the Lightning, striking out three and yielding three runs and six hits over seven innings.

Down 2-0 in the third, Goldey-Beacom got an RBI double from freshman Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) and a run-scoring single from senior Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) for a 2-2 tie.  Sophomore Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) broke the tie in the fifth with a run-scoring fielder's choice to plate junior Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ).

But the Tigers mounted a six-run rally in the seventh for the final.  Favinger provided the go-ahead markers with a two-run single, Orozco followed with a two-RBI single and Rachael Zeides added a two-run single.

Conway rapped two hits and Millville, NJ sophomore Alexa Calareso (2-6) gave up four runs and nine hits over 6 1/3 innings with two strikeouts for the Lightning (10-26, 8-10 CACC).

Orozco (12-9) had three hits and four RBI, including a run-scoring single in the first and a long solo homer in the third.  She also got the victory in the circle, permitting three runs – two earned – and six hits over seven innings with five strikeouts for the Tigers (21-17, 14-6).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday heads to Nyack for a make-up doubleheader at Nyack, starting at 1:00 pm.
