Softball Drops Two at Millersville

Goldey-Beacom was dealt a 5-0 setback by Millersville in the opener of their doubleheader before a tough 7-6 loss in Millersville, PA.

The Lightning in game one had to contend with Marauder pitcher Cassidy Pinchorski (11-13), who tossed a four-hit shutout without permitting a walk.  Pinchorski, Brittany Smith and Heather Lutz all had two hits.

Tower City, PA junior Kylie Doyle (4-10) struck out two over six innings, but yielded five runs – one earned and eight hits.

GBC in game two owned a 3-0 lead after Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) lined a two-run double in the second and fellow freshman Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, NJ) added an RBI single in the third.

The Marauders scored the next five runs for a 5-3 lead, keyed by Rebecca Blatt's two-run double in the third and Kelsey Campbell's squeeze bunt later in the frame that plated Megan McCurdy.

Sophomore Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) lined an RBI double in the fifth to make it a 5-4 deficit and with the score now 6-4 in the sixth, Goshorn blasted a two-run homer for her first collegiate long ball.

But Millersville grabbed the lead for good in the last of the sixth when McCurdy singled to score Smith.

Goshorn had a team-season-best four RBI as she, Davis and senior Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) all had two hits.  Millville, NJ sophomore Alexa Calareso (1-5) struck out four, but permitted five runs and eight hits over 3 2/3 innings.

Smith rapped three hits and Emma Bevard (5-7) got the win in relief, allowing two runs and four hits over 2 2/3 frames.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday to face 20th-ranked Caldwell, starting at 2:30 pm.
