Softball Gains Doubleheader Split at Bowie State

Goldey-Beacom rallied in game two at Bowie State to notch a 5-3 victory after opening with a 12-3 setback in Bowie, MD.

Trailing 3-1 after Inaya Jones blasted a three-run homer in the first, GBC fought back with four runs in the second for a 5-3 lead.  Senior Ryann Farley (Barnegat, NJ) lined an RBI single and sophomore Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) laced a two-run single with a third run crossing home on an error.

It stayed that way going to the bottom of the seventh, when the Bulldogs had runners at second and third with two out.  But East Windsor, NJ sophomore Alyssa Giampolo (4-7) shook off the pressure by getting Nicoleen Ochoa to strike out swinging for the final.

Giampolo struck out seven over seven innings, yielding three runs and eight hits.  Davis ended with three hits.

Ochoa (2-9) struck out three, but surrendered five runs – three earned – and 13 hits over seven innings.

GBC (9-21) in game one erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the third inning for a 3-1 lead.  Sophomore Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) had an RBI single, Farley lined a run-scoring double and then scored when Davis' grounder was mishandled.

The Bulldogs (13-15) took the lead for good, 4-3, in the last of the third.  Ochoa laced a two-run single and Jones followed with an RBI double.  Bowie State then scored eight times in the fifth with Ochoa smacking a two-run homer and Jacqueline Pickering ending it on a three-run double.

Freshman Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, NJ) had two hits and Tower City, PA junior Kylie Doyle (4-9) allowed 10 runs – eight earned -- and eight hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Ochoa ended with two hits and four RBI.  Stefanie Ray (10-6) permitted three runs – two earned – and six hits over five innings.

Goldey-Beacom on Monday visits Millersville for a 2:30 pm doubleheader.
