Softball Gains Split at Wilmington (DE)

Goldey-Beacom needed extra time in game two for a 2-1, nine-inning triumph at Wilmington following a 12-0 loss in the opener during Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in New Castle, DE.

In game two with the contest level at one after eight innings, the international tiebreaker was in place with junior Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) put at second for GBC.  She took third on a wild pitch and then scored when senior Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) laid down a perfect bunt single for a 2-1 contest.

Wilmington had its turn in the eighth with Danielle Bradley on second.  She reached third on a sacrifice bunt from Colby Wyatt, but was caught off third base when freshman catcher Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, NJ) made a perfect throw to get her.

Tower City, PA junior Kylie Doyle (4-8) permitted one run and seven hits over nine innings with a strikeout for the Lightning.  Sophomore Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) had two hits.

Meghan Brown rapped two hits and Caitlyn Whiteside (13-6) struck out four over three relief innings, but allowed an unearned run for Wilmington (23-14, 11-7 CACC)

The Wildcats in game one scored in every inning they batted.  Kaitlyn Slater had a two-run double to spark the third inning and then delivered the key blow in the fourth with a three-run homer.

Brandle rapped two hits and East Windsor, NJ sophomore Alyssa Giampolo (3-7) permitted seven runs and six hits over 2 1/3 innings for the Lightning (8-20, 7-7).

Mao is riding a career-best 10-game hitting streak, during which she is batting .367 (11-for-30).

Slater closed 3-for-3 with five RBI and was a triple short of the cycle.  Whiteside struck out three over five scoreless frames, yielding three hits.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Friday for a non-league doubleheader at Bowie State, beginning at 2:30 pm.
