Game Recap: Softball |

Ryann Farley’s Two-Run Single Gives Softball Split vs. Post

Senior Ryann Farley (Barnegat, NJ) lined a two-run single in the fifth inning of game one to give Goldey-Beacom a 2-0 victory that preceded an 11-1 loss to Post in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at Asbury Field in New Castle, DE.

After both teams in game one struggled to get runners on base over the first four innings, the Lightning finally came through in the fifth.  Freshman Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, NJ) drew a one-out walk and pinch-runner Kylie Doyle (Tower City, PA) was sacrificed to second by fellow junior Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA).  After sophomore Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) reached on an error and stole second, Farley singled up the middle to plate both runners.

It was enough offense for East Windsor, NJ sophomore Alyssa Giampolo (2-5), who struck out five over seven innings and yielded just three hits for her third career shutout.

Leslie Denis (2-4) allowed two unearned runs and six hits over six innings with two strikeouts for the Eagles (7-12, 3-3 CACC).

Game two belonged to Post's Kayla Kresley, who had a double in all four of her at-bats and notched seven RBI.  She lined an RBI double in the first for a 1-0 lead, laced a two-run double in the second to make it 4-0, added another RBI double in the sixth for a 6-1 contest and finished with a two-run double in the seventh for the final.

Leyri Rivera rapped three hits as part of the Eagles' 11 for the contest.  Brianna Koref (3-2) struck out six over seven innings, permitting one run and five hits.

Doyle (2-6) was charged with five runs – three earned – and six hits over four innings for GBC (5-15, 4-4).  Murphy ended the game with two hits.

Goldey-Beacom returns to action Tuesday at Dominican (NY) for a 2:30 pm doubleheader.
