Softball Dealt a Pair of Losses by West Chester

Goldey-Beacom played down to the wire against West Chester in a 2-0 game-one loss before being handed a 10-0 setback in the finale at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

A classic pitchers' duel was on tap in the opener with Lightning sophomore Alyssa Giampolo (East Windsor, NJ) and the Golden Rams' Brooke Harner doing battle.  The two over the first five innings refused to give an inch with the game scoreless.

West Chester broke through in the sixth when Sara Ercolani lined an RBI single to left that scored Sarah Walasavage.  Heidi McCollester provided insurance in the seventh with a home run to left field.

Senior Charlee King (New Castle, DE) doubled and sophomore Shelby Murphy (Laurel, DE) tripled for the Lightning's only hits.  Giampolo (1-5) struck out three over seven innings, but yielded two runs and five hits.

Bri Garber went 3-for-3 and Harner (4-0) struck out seven over seven innings.

West Chester in game two plated five runs in the top of the sixth for a 10-0 lead.  Ercolani delivered the key blow with a two-run double to left-center field and Alyssa Herion lined an RBI double.

Walasavage
closed with three hits and Micaela McSpadden recorded two.  Amanda Houck (14-2) struck out eight over six innings, allowing eight hits for West Chester.

Murphy had three hits to tie her career best and King had two for the Lightning.  Tower City, PA junior Kylie Doyle (2-5) allowed 10 runs – one earned – and 12 hits over six innings with four strikeouts.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Post, beginning at 1:00 pm.
