Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Handed a Pair of Losses at Philadelphia U.

Goldey-Beacom played two hard-fought games, only to fall by scores of 6-1 and 1-0 at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference-foe Philadelphia University in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia U. (10-11, 5-1 CACC) in game one scored three times in the bottom of the third inning for a 3-0 lead.  Naomi Stas had an RBI infield bunt single and Breck Urban lined a two-run single to right.

GBC (4-12, 3-3) got its run in the top of the fourth, loading the bases with none out before freshman Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) drew a bases-loaded walk.

East Windsor, NJ sophomore Alyssa Giampolo (1-4) rapped two hits, but gave up six runs – five earned – and nine hits over six innings with a strikeout.

Urban, Courtney Wensel and Monica Levins had two hits apiece for the Rams.  Stephanie Pepper (4-6) struck out 13 over seven innings, permitting one run and five hits.

Game two saw Tower City, PA junior Kylie Doyle (2-4) pitch arguably the best game of her career.  She yielded just one unearned run and one hit over six innings with three strikeouts and no walks in facing only three batters above the minimum.

The Rams got their only run in the sixth inning on no hits as two errors led to Madison Heno crossing home.

Giampolo, Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, NJ) and fellow freshman Kylie Quirk (Newark, DE) each had a hit for the Lightning.  Alfonsi recorded the only hit in the nightcap for the Rams.

Stas (6-2) turned her attention to the circle in game two and got the win, striking out eight over seven innings and allowing three hits in facing just two batters above the minimum.

Goldey-Beacom is home Thursday against West Chester for a 2:30 pm doubleheader at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
