On a brisk and cloudy day, Goldey-Beacom softball was dealt a pair of losses from Mercy College by scores of were 8-0 and 9-2 in Wilmington, DE.
In game one, McKaily Cusumano (1-0) started at pitcher for the Mavericks. She finished with five innings pitches, no earned runs and allowed three hits.
Mercy (6-2) had a 2-0 lead going into the third inning before Kendall Meeks hit a two-run home run over the left-field fence.
Kylie Quirk (1-for-2), freshman from Delaware Military Academy, doubled to right center field for her first hit in a Lightning uniform.
Senior Paulynn Mao (0-1), senior from Anaheim, Calif., started the first game for Goldey-Beacom (4-10).
Meeks crushed another homer in the first inning of game two, giving the Mavericks 6-0 cushion.
Alexis Carmichael (1-0) received the win. She pitched two innings, allowed two earned runs and four hits.
Sophomore Shelby Murphy (Bethel, Del.) played very well, in batting 3-for-4 and stole two bases. Sophomore Rachel Davis (Laurel, Del.) helped by batting 2-for-2.
Alexa Calareso (1-3), sophomore from Millville, N.J., started the second game for the Lightning.
Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday takes on Mansfield University. The doubleheader begins at 2:30 pm in the Jackson Athletic Complex. Â
