Women’s Tennis Handed First Loss of the Season

Goldey-Beacom ran into a nationally ranked foe in Indiana (PA), but the former was dealt its first loss of the season with a 7-2 setback in Elkton, MD.
 
GBC (11-1) entered ranked third in the East Region according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and is off to its best start in school history.  But IUP (8-4) not only is first in the Atlantic Region, it is 35th in the country.
 
The Lightning did claim two singles victories.  Freshman Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain), ranked 15th in the region, posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jarka Petercakova at No. 1 and senior Nina Sengl (Puchheim, Germany) notched a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Katya Minchenkova at No. 4.
 
Sengl now is 12-0 in singles this season, one victory shy of reaching the school's single-season top 10 list.  Hortelano Pey improved to 8-1.
 
Goldey-Beacom returns to action Wednesday at West Chester for a 2:00 pm match.
