Softball Gains Split With Chestnut Hill



Goldey-Beacom notched a 6-5 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win in the finale of its doubleheader with Chestnut Hill after opening with a 3-1 loss at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
 
Down 4-2 in the fourth, the Lightning scored twice for a 4-4 tie.  Sophomore Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) laced an RBI double to left and senior Paulynn Mao (Anaheim, CA) lifted a sacrifice fly to right.
 
Ashleigh Sharp gave the Griffins a 5-4 lead in the fifth with a single up the middle.  But GBC plated two in the last of the frame with junior Autumn Hollis (Elkton, MD) getting an RBI fielder's choice and sophomore Alyssa Giampolo (East Windsor, NJ) lacing a run-scoring single to left.
 
Tower City, PA junior Kylie Doyle (1-3) permitted five runs – four earned – and 11 hits over seven innings with three strikeouts and no walks for the Lightning (2-8, 1-1 CACC).  Giampolo and Davis closed with two hits apiece.
 
Nichole Eberhard (1-1) was charged with six runs – two earned – and seven hits over 4 1/3 innings for the Griffins (2-10, 1-1).  Corie Apodaca ended with two hits, including a two-run double.
 
Chestnut Hill in game one plated three runs in the top of the first, keyed by Sharp's two-run single.  GBC got one back in the seven on Mao's RBI single.
 
Giampolo (1-2) closed with three hits, but allowed three unearned runs and four hits over seven innings with four strikeouts.
 
Briannen Holloway (1-5) struck out seven over seven innings, yielding one run and seven hits.
 
Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday to host Felician for a 1:00 pm doubleheader.
