Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Felled, 79-77, by Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom surrendered a go-ahead jumper from Tyaire Ponzo-Meek with 47 seconds left and was handed a tough 79-77 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss by Wilmington (DE) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The 3-pointer gave the Wildcats a 76-74 lead and was part of a 7-0 run that produced a 78-74 cushion with 10 seconds left.  Wilmington (19-8, 14-4 CACC) completed a season sweep of GBC and sits second in the CACC South Division with the home side (19-6, 13-5) in third place.

Senior Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, DE) scored 26 points, junior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) added 15 and senior Riyan Williams (Dunkirk, MD) hauled in 10 rebounds for the Lightning, who shot 49 percent (30-of-61) from the floor.

Ponzo-Meek's shot did not overshadow the fact that Nick Richards was the star of the show.  Richards scored 34 points on 14-of-17 shooting with seven rebounds, Ponzo-Meek netted 20 and Drew Johnson added 11 for the Wildcats, who shot 48 percent (28-of-58) from the field.

The Lightning during the games hosted "Hoop It Up," an invitation for a meet-and-greet among Goldey-Beacom alumni and the parents of student-athletes.

Goldey-Beacom ends the regular season Tuesday at Chestnut Hill in an 8:00 pm contest.
