Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Records 20th Victory in 96-63 Triumph at Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom tied the school record with its 20th victory of the season and was on cruise control in the second half for a 96-63 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA.

The victory total matches that from the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons, both of which resulted in a trip to the CACC final.  The Lightning (20-6, 14-5 CACC) also break the school record for most league victories in a season and extend their team mark for most road wins in a season to 11.

GBC ends third in the CACC South Division and will travel to Dominican-NY (17-11, 12-7), which closed second in the North Division, in the conference quarterfinals on Saturday at 2:00 pm in Orangeburg, NY.

The Lightning turned a 65-61 lead with 7:21 remaining and scored the next 31 points to open a 35-point cushion, only giving up an innocuous basket near the end of the contest.  Seniors Sameen Swint (Sicklerville, NJ) and Riyan Williams (Dunkirk, MD) scored 10 points apiece in that spurt.

Williams ended with a season-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting, Swint poured in 19 points, junior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) scored 18, sophomore Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) netted 11 and senior Parris Ridgeway-Higgs (New Castle, DE) added 10 for the Lightning, who shot 53 percent (32-of-60) from the floor.

Nasir Bell scored 16 points, Demetrius Isaac netted 14 and Liban Awl added 10 for the Griffins (5-21, 2-17), who shot 39 percent (22-of-56) from the floor.
