Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Wins Fourth Straight, 84-76 at Millersville

Goldey-Beacom got four players to score in double figures and moved to .500 with its fourth straight win, 84-76 at Millersville in Millersville, PA.

Junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) scored five points during a 12-3 run in just under three minutes that gave GBC a 39-31 lead with 2:04 left in the first half.  That punctuated a stanza -- which featured 11 lead changes -- in which he went off for 15 points on 4-of-8 shooting and shot 5-for-7 from the line to help the Lightning open a 43-35 lead.

Freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) netted 10 points in the half on 4-for-4 shooting for the Lightning, who shot 58 percent (15-of-26) from the field with four 3-pointers and forced the Marauders into 12 turnovers.

Millersville closed to 50-41 early in the second half, but Goldey-Beacom then went on an 11-4 run over four minutes for a 61-45 cushion with 10:42 to go.  Livingston and freshman Tevin Service (Union, NJ) each hit a 3-pointer in that span with senior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) converting an old-fashioned three-point play.

The Marauders made things interesting by scoring seven straight points to close to 78-73 with 56 seconds remaining.  Jordan Greene converted a pair of old-fashioned three-point plays in that run.

But the Lightning finally righted the ship.  With GBC holding a 79-74 cushion, junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) made a free throw, rebounded his own miss of the second attempt and got a layup with 31 seconds to go for a seven-point cushion.

Livingston came to play with a season-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting and a personal-best four 3-pointers.  He is averaging 14.7 points over his last three games on 15-of-27 shooting with seven 3-pointers.

Taite finished with 19 points and now has 788 career, two shy of catching D.J. Stanberry for 15th place in school history.  Taite, named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll for a second time this year, shot 9-for-11 from the foul line and has 206 career made free throws, moving into seventh place in team history.

Thompson netted 16 points and Johnson added 13 for the Lightning (4-4), who shot 47 percent (25-of-53) from the field.

Greene ended with 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting and 10 rebounds for the Marauders (4-7), who shot 42 percent (25-of-59) from the floor.  Marcus Adkison scored 15 points and James Sullivan added 13.

GBC forced Millersville into 23 turnovers and has seen its opponent commit at least 19 turnovers in all eight games this season.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Wilmington (DE) as part of a doubleheader with the women's squad.  The men's game is at 3:00 pm, following the women's 1:00 pm contest.
