Women’s Basketball Returns From Break With a Loss at Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom ran into a scoring onslaught over the middle two periods and closed 2017 with a 94-55 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference setback at Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA.

Jefferson took control in the second quarter by outscoring GBC 27-11, part of a first half in which the home side shot 42 percent (17-of-41) from the field with six 3-pointers for a 48-24 lead.  Rachel Day, who poured in 13 points for the half, scored eight points in the quarter with Erin Maher, Jessica Kaminski and Alynna Williams netting five apiece.

The Rams (12-1, 5-0 CACC) then gained a 24-15 edge in the third quarter to open a 72-39 cushion.  Williams netted seven points in the period and Day once again had the hot hand with six.

One of the main bright spots for the Lightning continues to be senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA), who had 20 points on 10-of-14 shooting and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the campaign and 37th career.  She has scored in double figures each of her last four games, averaging 15.5 points in that stretch.

Sophomore Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) added six points for the Lightning (4-9, 2-2 CACC), who shot 43 percent (23-of-53) from the floor.

All of the Rams' starters reached double figures to help the squad shoot 50 percent (35-of-70) from the floor with 11 three-pointers.  Williams closed with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, Day netted 19 points with five 3-pointers, Kaminski scored 18 points, Beverly Kum poured in 13 and Maher added 10 for Jefferson, which notched its sixth straight win.
