Men’s Basketball Handed 72-61 Loss at Jefferson



Goldey-Beacom nearly rallied from a double-figure deficit in the second half before it was handed a 72-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA.
 
Goldey-Beacom found itself in a 46-34 hole with 11:08 left before using an 11-2 run to close to 48-47 with 6:41 remaining.  Junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) continued his incredible play by scoring nine points in that span, including a couple of free throws to end it.
 
Jefferson held a 51-50 lead with 5:43 left before it scored the next eight points for a nine-point cushion with 3:02 remaining.  Josh Bradanese netted five points in that span, including a huge 3-pointer to cap it.
 
Taite made a short jumper with 2:27 remaining to cut it to 59-52 before Jefferson put the nail in the coffin.  Kaison Randolph made two free throws with 1:46 to go for a 61-52 margin and then buried a 3-pointer from the right corner with 70 seconds left for a 12-point game.
 
Taite came off the bench for the first time all season, but still had the same productivity by scoring 23 points on 9-of-19 shooting with six rebounds, three 3-pointers and three assists.  Taite moves into 12th place in school history with 895 career points, seventh with 208 assists and ninth with 104 three-pointers.
 
Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) and fellow senior Isiah Graves (Atlantic City, NJ) poured in eight points apiece for the Lightning (6-7, 2-2 CACC), who shot 36 percent (25-of-70) from the floor but were just 5-of-24 from three-point range.
 
Randolph scored 15 of his team-high 20 points in the second half to help the Rams shoot 54 percent (14-of-26) from the field in the stanza and 47 percent (24-of-51) overall.  Bradanese poured in 19 points, Yevgen Sakhniuk had 14 and 18 rebounds with Alex Gorton adding 14 points for Jefferson.
 
Thompson and freshman Tevin Service (Union, NJ) scored six points apiece in the first half as the Lightning trailed, 26-25, at halftime.  Goldey-Beacom in the half forced 11 turnovers and limited Jefferson (10-5, 5-0) to shoot just 2-of-11 from three-point range.
 
Goldey-Beacom opens 2018 at home Wednesday against University of the Sciences at 8:00 pm as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  The women's game starts at 6:00 pm.
