Women’s Basketball Handed 77-53 Loss at Chestnut Hill



Goldey-Beacom gave up runs in the second and third quarters to fall in its 2017-18 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener, 77-53 at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA.
 
Chestnut Hill (4-3, 1-0 CACC) took control by breaking off a 17-3 run to end the second quarter and open a 37-24 lead.  Cailey Gibson scored six points in that spurt for the Griffins, who shot 4-of-7 from 3-point range in that span.
 
The home side increased its lead in the third with a 15-1 run in over six minutes for a 58-32 margin with 22 seconds left in the period.  Vicky Tumasz netted six points in that span for Chestnut Hill.
 
Junior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) scored 12 points with three 3-pointers and nine rebounds for the Lightning (2-7, 0-1), who shot 30 percent (20-of-67) from the field.  Senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) had seven points and 14 rebounds with freshman Alanna Speaks (Wilmington, DE) adding seven points.
 
Tumasz scored 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting with six 3-pointers, Cassie Sebold netted 12 points off the bench with six assists and Gibson poured in 10 points for the Griffins, who shot 37 percent (29-of-78) from the floor with 12 three-pointers.
 
Goldey-Beacom is off until next Saturday, when it hosts Wilmington (DE) as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game is at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 3:00 pm.
