First-Half Dominance Carries Women’s Hoops to 82-60 Victory Over Wilmington


 
Goldey-Beacom had its foot on the accelerator in the first half and then went into cruise control for an 82-60 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Wilmington (DE) at the Jones Center in Wilmington.
 
The Lightning scored the game's first 13 points and opened a 47-31 halftime lead, shooting 49 percent (18-of-37) from the field with six 3-pointers and a 26-13 rebounding advantage.  Sophomore Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) had 14 points and four 3-pointers in the half with freshman Alanna Speaks (Wilmington, DE) adding 11 points.
 
Speaks ended with 17 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double to go with four 3-pointers, all career highs.  McGrogan netted a season-best 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting and a season-high five 3-pointers to help GBC shoot 44 percent (31-of-70) from the floor with 13 three-pointers, tops for the campaign.
 
Senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) added 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting with seven rebounds for the Lightning, who have won 16 of their last 17 encounters with the Wildcats.
 
Nyree Grant had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Emma Matthews scored 18 and Jadyn Whitsitt poured in 13 for Wilmington, which shot 33 percent (21-of-64) from the floor and was outrebounded, 48-38.
 
Goldey-Beacom is home next Saturday against New York Tech, starting at 4:00 pm.  The men are in action afterward against Adelphi at 6:00 pm.
