Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Upends Chestnut Hill, 78-74, in CACC Opener

Goldey-Beacom eradicated a seven-point second-half deficit and opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a 78-74 victory at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia, PA.

Senior Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) gave GBC the lead for good with 64 seconds left, tipping one home for a 72-70 game.  The Griffins then worked the ball looking for a tie or the lead, but Thompson stole the ball from Roman Letterlough with 31 seconds left.

Chestnut Hill let almost half the shot clock bleed not wanting to foul junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ), but it finally had to with 16 seconds left.  The result from the career 75 percent free throw shooter was eminent as Taite knocked both down for a 74-70 game.

After Demetrius Isaac was allowed to hit a layup for the Griffins, freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) canned two free throws with 7.8 seconds left for a 76-72 contest.  Isaac was let go for an easy layup with 3.2 seconds to play for a 76-74 game before Taite hit twice more from the line with 2.5 seconds remaining for the final.

Taite scored 18 points and now has 769 career, moving him into 16th place in team history.  Livingston netted a season-best 15 points, junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) netted 13 and Thompson added 10 and seven rebounds for the Lightning (3-4, 1-0 CACC), who shot 44 percent (28-of-63) from the floor overall and rallied from a 45-38 deficit with 17 minutes left.

Cariter Talford poured in 19 points, Isaac netted 18 with Letterlough and Liban Awl adding 10 for the Griffins (1-6, 0-1), who could not overcome 19 turnovers.

GBC, winners of three straight, trailed 37-36 at the half despite shooting 46 percent (15-of-33) from the floor and limiting Chestnut Hill to just 37 percent (10-of-27).  Johnson scored nine points on 4-of-7 shooting.

Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday steps out of conference to face Millersville.  Game time is 7:00 pm.
