Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls, 60-49, to Bowie State

Despite another double-double from senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA), Goldey-Beacom was breached for the game's final 11 points and was handed a 60-49 loss by Bowie State at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Freshman Alanna Speaks (Wilmington, DE) canned a free throw with 4:02 left to pull the Lightning to a 49-49 deadlock.  But the Bulldogs took over from there, shooting 3-of-6 from the floor the rest of the way and 5-for-6 from the line.

Kyaja Williams began things for Bowie State by hitting two free throws with 3:14 to play for a 51-49 game.  Both teams in the next few possessions had great looks down low and on the perimeter, but could not find pay dirt.

The score remained the same for almost two minutes before Lisa Jing hit a layup with 1:21 to go for a 53-49 Bulldogs lead.  After sophomore Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) missed a layup for GBC, Pere Alexander's layup with 46 seconds left gave Bowie State a 55-49 lead.

Bryson, picked to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll a second straight week, closed with 16 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and 36th career.  Junior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) netted 13 points for the Lightning (2-6), who shot 30 percent (16-of-54) from the field.

Williams scored 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting with 11 rebounds, Kiara Colston netted 13 points on 4-of-6 from the floor and Sade Chatman added 12 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs (5-1), who shot 37 percent (21-of-57) from the field.

Goldey-Beacom hits the road Saturday for its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener at Chestnut Hill, which begins at 1:00 pm.  The men's contest between the same schools starts at 3:00 pm.
