Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Wins Second Straight, 75-64 at LIU Post

Goldey-Beacom took advantage of an impressive first half and left Nassau County with its second straight victory, 75-64 at LIU Post in Brookville, NY.

Goldey-Beacom raced to a 45-28 halftime lead thanks to both its offense and defense.  The visitors shot 43 percent (13-of-30) from the field, limited LIU Post to just 30 percent (8-of-27) and forced the home side into 15 turnovers.  The Lightning lived up to their nickname with their quickness and fast breaks that forced the Pioneers to call three timeouts in the half, all within a three-minute span.

Freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) scored 10 points in the half and junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) added nine for GBC, which held a 22-9 edge in bench points for the period.

The Pioneers hung around late in the contest, netting 10 straight points in just over two minutes to close to 65-56 with 1:51 left.  Jared Rivers scored six points to help his side shoot 4-of-4 from the floor in that span.

The Lightning held a 67-58 cushion with a minute left before slamming the door from the foul line.  They went 8-for-10 from the line over that stretch to clinch the game with junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ), who scored 12 points in the second half, going 7-for-8.

Taite finished 11-for-12 from the line and now has 190 career made free throws, moving him into ninth place in school history.  He finished the game with 18 points.

Johnson scored 11 points and Livingston netted 10 for the Lightning, who closed with a 33-19 advantage in bench points and posted their first win over the Pioneers in four meetings.

Rivers scored 24 points and Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor hauled in 14 rebounds for the Pioneers (2-5), who shot only 4-of-22 from 3-point range and committed 27 turnovers.

The Lightning (2-4) have forced their opponents to commit at least 20 turnovers in all six games this season.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Saturday to visit Chestnut Hill in both schools' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener.  Game time is 3:00 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm contest.
