Great Shooting Leads Men’s Basketball to 74-64 Win Over New Haven



Goldey-Beacom had control of the contest the entire second half and notched its first victory of the season with a 74-64 triumph over New Haven at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
After trailing most of the first half, Goldey-Beacom owned a 41-33 lead with 15:18 left before using a 21-13 run over seven minutes to gain a 62-43 cushion with 8:58 to go.  Junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA) scored five points in that span for the Lightning, who shot 8-of-11 in that span with a pair of 3-pointers.
 
GBC led by double figures the rest of the way and moved to 3-0 against New Haven in the first meeting between the teams since 2009.
 
Junior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) ended with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting and nine rebounds in addition to going 7-for-9 from the line.  Johnson scored 13 points for the Lightning (1-4), who shot 54 percent (14-of-26) from the floor in the second half and 44 percent (24-of-44) overall.
 
Elijah Bailey and Michael Bourke netted 13 points apiece with Najee Larcher adding 10 for the Chargers, who shot 45 percent (23-of-51) from the floor but could not overcome 20 turnovers that included 12 in the opening half.
 
New Haven (4-2) had its four-game winning streak snapped
 
Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday opens a three-game road trip at LIU Post.  Game time is 7:00 pm.
