Women’s Basketball Gets First Win of the Season, 51-47 Over SNHU

Goldey-Beacom built a 10-point lead and withstood a late charge for a 51-47 triumph over Southern New Hampshire in Philadelphia, PA.

The Lightning (1-1) used a 10-3 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to open a 50-40 lead with 5:22 left.  Junior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) scored five points in that span and sophomore Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) hit a 3-pointer.

The Penmen closed to 51-47 with 21 seconds left on a free throw from Gyanna Russell.  After McGrogan missed two free throws with 16 seconds remaining, Southern New Hampshire's Catherine Stinson misfired on a 3-pointer and sophomore Ruth Fernandez (Madrid, Spain) got the rebound to secure the win.

McGrogan scored 14 points with four 3-pointers and Turner-Rush netted 10 points for the Lightning, who shot 35 percent (16-of-46) from the field with seven 3-pointers.  Senior Britani Bryson (Hampton, VA) added nine points and seven rebounds.
