Women's Soccer Advances to CACC Semifinals with Dramatic Win over Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom's Women's Soccer team pulled off a thrilling 2-1 overtime win in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference quarterfinals over Jefferson at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The final goal came off the foot of Alanna Speaks (Wilmington, DE), the CACC Rookie of the Year, in the 97th minute. Junior Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland), the reigning CACC Player of the Week, crossed the ball low into the box setting up Speaks to contact the ball just enough trickling underneath the diving goalie.

The goal would not have been possible if not for GBC junior goalkeeper Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain), who made a spectacular one-handed diving save two minutes earlier off a shot from Dena Noiseux to keep the fourth-seeded Lightning afloat. Lopez recorded six saves for the match.

Senior Elena Power (Glassboro, NJ) scored Goldey-Beacom's first goal off a left-footed moon ball struck outside of the box landing just inside of the top right corner during the 30th minute.

The fifth-seeded Rams attained the first goal in the 14th minute with a 30-yard rocket from Dena Noiseux. Jefferson finished the season with a record of 9-9 (8-5 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (12-4-2, 8-3-1) moves onto the CACC semifinals and will take on top-seeded Georgian Court. The match starts at 11:00 am on Friday at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ.
